QNAP also has 2.5G expansion cards for NAS and PC’s available. Other vendors like Asustor have followed suit with its Asustor Nimbustor 4 4-Bay NAS.

QSW-M1208-8C Performance

We put the QSW-M1208-8C to the test. We ran 128GB 8K video files from our AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3960X 10GbE via the QSW-M1208-8C to our 16-bay Xeon D Super NAS TS-1685 10GbE bonded. Our techs were all impressed by the blazing speed of this switch. Our techs clocked the transfers at 2110 MB/s Read1922 MB/s Write but those were just transfer rate. How would the QSW-M1208-8C fair in real world environment?

We mounted the QNAP TS-1685 to the DaVinci Resolve library from our AMD Ryzen Threadripper and our editors went to work. Editing, encoding and rendering at top speeds. Our editors saw zero lag while in full production.  Once complete with DeVinci we moved over to Premier Pro likewise; editing, encoding and rendering at top speeds our editors compared the speeds to on board SSD’s. Our creative department was very pleased by the performance of the QSW-M1208-8C 10GbE and like most creative’s these guys are very tough to please.

Conclusion

The QSW-M1208-8C performed very well in all of our testing and did not hold up production, we were able to work without lag. The QSW-M1208-8C is an overall great value with an MSRP of just $599.
